Herbal – a prevention tool of prostate cancer
The scientists have always been skeptical of the isflavones, which, they say, can turn around the effects of steroid that generates in human body and plays a vital role in standing firm against prostate cancer.
A research is being conducted at the National Institutes of Health to know the role of isoflavones which nullify the effect of DHEA, a steroid compound which arouse the production of testosterone. Researchers at the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) are doing this research.
It has been identified that higher levels of testosterone in men lower the chance of prostate cancer.
A cell culture subjected to DHEA has been completed at NCCAM laboratory which results an increase in testosterone production. However, it gave an opposite result when they were treated with red clover isoflavones.
A staff scientist at NCCAM, Dr. Julia Arnold says, "Something is happening in the prostate tissue microenvironment that is illustrating a potential cancer prevention effect from this supplement."
Dr. Julia Arnold says, a precaution has been taken before fully understanding the effect of compounds and their interface with DHEA. There is a lot of space available for the research in this field.
