Leucorrhea is a female genital tract ailment which causes abnormal white to yellowish discharge, which may or may not be itchy and foul smelling. The problem although very common in women can not be taken lightly as it leads to immense fatigue, headaches and even osteoporosis. There are some effective herbal cures which have proven to be quite good in treating this ailment.

Leucorrhea is mainly caused when the mucus membrane of the female genital tract releases a whitish or coloured discharge. This leads to vaginal irritation and even Urinary Tract Infection. Several other symptoms indicate towards the problem. Some of these are - general irritability, dark circles under the eyes, itching in the genital area, foul smell, spots on the undergarments and digestive problems.

There can be various factors which might cause this problem. However, the most common ones are –pathological causes like fungal infections or ameobiasis, unhygienic conditions and poor health. Generally it is seen that leucorrhoea happens either just before or after the menstrual cycle.

There are some other reasons also which might lead to this problem –

•    Lack of sleep and late nights
•    Hormonal disturbances
•    Anemia and weakness
•    Chronic constipation

Leucorrhea finds and excellent cure in Ayurveda as there are many effective herbs available to treat such problems. Some such herbal solutions are –

•    Femi Forte – this is by far the best treatment for Leucorrhea suggested by Ayurvedic practitioners. It not only treats but also prevents the recurrence of this problem. a concoction of three herbs - lodhra, ashoka and Shatavari, Femi Forte works wonders for all gynaecological problems especially leucorrhea.
•    Ashoka – this herb relieves itching, and is a great muscle relaxant as well .it is also used for excessive bleeding during menstruation.
•    Walnut leaves – these too act as antibacterial astringents and can therefore be used a douches.
•    Fenugreek seeds – they can be used as a douche or can be used in the form of tea.
•    Amaranth Root - Amaranth is a very good remedy for leucorrhea. The root of this herb is rubbed in 25 ml of water and the water is strained and given to the patient twice everyday. Its leaves and branches too can be used in the same fashion.
•    Lady's Fingers – this vegetable is used to prepare a decoction which helps cure the problem effectively. Cut some ladies fingers transversely and then boil them in half a litre of water. Use approximately 100 ml of the vegetable. Strain the solution and sweeten it. Then it can be taken in doses of 60 ml, from time to time.
•    Dhataki – this helps to cure the digestive problems due to which leucorrhea may stem out. It is good for the bowel function.
•    M2tone – this is again a good cure for the ailments of the genital tract.
•    Guava leaves – they are a strong vaginal astringent and can be used as a douche when suffering from leucorrhea.
•    Mango – the patient can either use an application of mango paste on the vagina or can use the mango seeds, made into a paste and applied internally.
•    Neem capsules can also be taken as they help to fight all kinds of infections.

Some lifestyle changes –

•    The patient needs to abstain from sexual intercourse during the attack of the disease.
•    Avoid foods which are fried, spicy and sour like pickles and curd.
•    Exercise on a daily basis to help body metabolism.
•    Steamed food helps.
•    Focus should be on a well balanced diet.
•    Have small and frequent meals to avoid long intervals of empty stomach.
•    Hygiene needs to be maintained properly and regularly.

With the regular use of the herbal remedies and the required lifestyle changes it shall be easy to cure the problem effectively.
