Swelling of feet during pregnancy is a common problem. Usually, it is noticed around the fifth month and can increase till you reach the third trimester. This condition is also called edema. A common cure for swelling is intake of foods that are rich in potassium, such as bananas. Also, intake of caffeine ought to be avoided in swelling.
 
Following are the most common natural treatments for swelling of feet during pregnancy:
 
Drink a lot of water during pregnancy. On an average, at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day should be drunk by a pregnant lady. Water is considered as the best natural therapy to get rid of excess of toxins in the body. If sufficient quantity of water is not taken by a pregnant woman, then all the excess toxic fluids of the body would get settled in the feet, thus causing swelling. Also, drinking a lot of water could increase the frequency of urination in pregnant women, which is a good sign as urination expels wastes from the body.
Avoid wearing tight trousers or jeans during pregnancy. This is because tight lowers would increase the pressure on the legs. Prefer wearing loose stockings or pantyhose instead so as to give support to the feet.
Do not sit or stand without moving for prolonged periods of time. Avoid wearing restrictive clothing around your thighs. Do exercise on a regular basis. 
Lose weight if required. This would lighten the pressure on legs and feet.
Avoid taking too salty or spicy food. This would help in decreasing swelling of feet during pregnancy. 
Do not use water pills for treatment of swelling during pregnancy.
Add essential oils to a warm bath to reduce the intensity of swelling during pregnancy.
Taking a relaxed bath is a good cure for swollen legs. For doing so, add one drop each of chamomile and lavender oil to the bath water.
Elevate your feet above the level of your heart at frequent intervals.
Stretch your legs in the front while sitting on a carpet. Rotate your legs for 10-15 times each, first in clockwise direction and then in anti-clock wise direction. This will reduce swelling and enhance blood circulation of feet. 
Pregnant women should sleep on the left side as it increases the blood circulation in the pelvic area and helps in relieving the pressure from the legs region. 
Keep your feet in cold water for around 10 minutes before going to bed at night. This will relieve you from the pain and control the swelling of your feet. 
Take a glass of water and put some coriander seeds in it for 20 minutes. Drink this on a daily basis. This is a natural remedy for swelled feet. 
Drink lots of fruit juices and milk during pregnancy as it prevents swelling in your feet.
Drink barley water two times a day. 
Walk daily for at lease half an hour. Moving your feet will prevent accumulation of fluids in the feet. 
Prefer eating green leafy vegetables like spinach, beans, and cabbage as they maintain your digestive system and hence excrete the waste from the body. 
Do yoga exercises daily as it helps in improving blood circulation and thus reduces swelling of feet. Yoga postures like Pranayama are beneficial for both body and mind.
Do 10 minutes massaging of your feet every day. This also helps in reducing swelling of your feet during pregnancy.
Always wear comfortable footwear during pregnancy to avoid swelling and foot pain.
Avoid staying for a long time in hot atmospheric condition.
Prepare a glass of buttermilk from curd. Drink it for 2-3 times in a day. Buttermilk is supposed to be a healthy drink for women with swelled feet during pregnancy. Also, it cleans the toxic substance and helps in digestion. It is considered to be one of the best home remedies for swelling of feet during pregnancy.
 
Always remember: A well-balanced diet comprising all essential nutrients together with regular exercise is highly beneficial for pregnant women suffering from swelled feet.
