PUNSAVAN SANSKAR
 
‘I wish to have male/female child’
 
(Begetting son) this sanskar is done in the second month of pregnancy. The son is deemed to take the legacy of vansha (family) forward. (Rather the scenario has widely changed in past few decades).
 
This sanskar can be performed to have specific male/female child. Certain rituals are performed for the confirmation of pregnancy to overcome any defects to conceive a male/female child.
 
The bestowal of opulence (soubhagya) by the blessing of a deity is the key. The principle behind the punsavan karma is called “samansheelay vyasneshu sakhyam…”
 
The herbs that are used decrease the pitta energy and balances Tridosha. Pitta energy when balanced protects pregnancy by stabilizing it and increasing the community.
