Anorexia (symptom) is a serious illness related to loss of appetite. A person suffering from anorexia has disturbed digestion and overall weakness. The main cause behind this illness is failure of the stomach activity and emission of gastric juices because of low vitality.

There can be various causes responsible for anorexia. The chief causes include a faulty diet and lack of physical work. Mental stress can also be responsible for anorexia in a person. This can be due to many reasons including domestic worries, emotional disturbances, difficult working conditions and nervous disorder. Sometimes common body disorders and diseases are also responsible for anorexia.
Home remedies for anorexia
Some simple and effective natural remedies for anorexia are stated below:
• Curing Anorexia Using Oranges: Oranges are a very effective cure for anorexia. This is because they accelerate the flow of digestive juices that help in improving digestion and increasing appetite. It is recommended to take one or two oranges daily.
• Curing Anorexia Using Sour Grapes: Sour grapes are also found to be extremely beneficial for patients suffering from anorexia. It is advisable to use grapes juice to knead the flour before preparing wheat tortilla. This wheat tortilla should be eaten regularly for around two weeks. It will help in toning up the stomach and thus improving the appetite.
• Curing Anorexia Using Lime: Juice of lime and ginger is a proven effective remedy for anorexia. To prepare the juice, mix one teaspoonful of lime juice with an equal quantity of ginger juice. Add one gram of rock salt to this mixture and keep it in sunlight for around three days. Take a teaspoon of this mixture after each meal. This will strengthen the digestive system, thus improving your appetite.
• Curing Anorexia Using Apples: Apples help in digestion by stimulating the pepsin flow, a protein-digesting enzyme in the stomach. An apple a day would help in curing anorexia to a great extent.
• Curing Anorexia Using Garlic: Garlic contains a special feature that helps in stimulating the digestive system and improving appetite. Garlic soup can be of great help to the patient suffering from anorexia. For preparing the soup, take three or four cloves of raw garlic and boil them in one cup of water. You can add half lemon juice in the soup to reinforce its effect.
• Curing Anorexia Using Ginger: Take five grams of ginger and grind it. Then lick it with a pinch of salt at least once a day for curing anorexia.
Along with adopting the above remedies, some alterations in your daily diet will help to cure anorexia more quickly and effectively. The major alterations required are described hereunder:
1. Fasting on orange juice and water for three to five days will prove to be extremely beneficial in curing anorexia. Keep in mind not to take anything else otherwise, the effect of the fast will be lost completely. If orange does not suit your digestive system, you can take half a glass of carrot juice mixed with an equal quantity of water on a daily basis for three to five days as an alternative to get rid of anorexia.
2. A patient suffering from this illness is then advised to have an all-fruit diet for next five to six days. Take three meals of juicy fruits in a day at an interval of five-hours. The suggested fruits include apples, pears, grapes, grape-fruits, oranges, pineapples, peaches and melons.
3. After having all-fruit diet for five days, switch over to a restricted diet of cooked vegetables and juicy fruits.
4. The patient may then have a restricted diet of foods that can be digested easily for about ten days. Some examples of this are: lightly-cooked vegetables, juicy fruits, and buttermilk.
It is important to note that besides the above remedies and tips to cure anorexia, ghee (clarified butter) is also considered as an effective food for increasing the appetite. It increases the potential of digestive system without interrupting in the functioning of any other body part. Also, intake of some spicy food twice or thrice in a week will boost your appetite.
