Perspiration or sweat refers to a salty fluid excreted from the sweat glands. The body loses this salty acid while sweating. Body odour or Bromhidrosis refers to the smell of sweat and bacteria growing on the body.
Body odour varies form individual to individual. The body odour depends on factors like gender, diet, health, genes, stress, weather, medication, occupation, and so on. The body parts that are more prone to sweat are armpits and genitals. It is to be noted that the use of deodorants worsens the condition of perspiration and body odour as they contain various toxic chemicals and aluminum products.
Causes of body odour
Following are some of the main causes of body odour:
• Any prolonged and chronic disease
• Intake of drugs
• Anxiety
• Menopause in women
• Over secretion of hormones
• Constipation
Home remedies for body odour and perspiration
Some of the simple and effective home remedies to prevent body odour are:
• Drink a cup of tomato juice everyday for around 7-8 days. Then drink a cup of tomato juice on alternative days for a week. After that, drink it when needed.
• Spray talc after shower everyday.
• Body scrub with some chamomile oil is an effective remedy for body odour.
• Take some baking soda and soak cotton wool pads in it. Then powder the underarms with it to control body odour.
• To eliminate underarms body odour, apply apple cider vinegar on them.
• Mix some baking soda in lemon juice. Rub the mixture on underarms to reduce the effect of body odour.
• Use of baby wipes to clean the underarms is also a proven remedy.
• Application of lemon juice on underarms after taking a shower is beneficial to prevent body odour.
• Put 8-10 drops of the essential oil in 1/3 cup of water and apply it on the underarms.
• Slice a potato and wipe it a few times under dry armpits.
• Mash a big piece of ginger and keep it in a handkerchief. Apply it on the underarms with a cotton ball after taking a shower.
• Take half a liter of wheat grass juice daily with a glass of water when you are empty stomach. It will surely help in reducing the body odour.
• Apply some baking soda to the armpits and feet. It will help in minimizing the foul body odour.
• Wash your armpits with alcohol or white vinegar. It is another good and effective home remedy for reducing the body odour.
• Bathe with few drops of rose water in the bath tub full of water. This is a very simple and straightforward home remedy for body odour.
• Prefer taking shower bath at least two times a day in summers as sweating or perspiration is more during summer season.
• Take two radishes’ juice. Add one fourth teaspoon of glycerin to it and put the mixture in a spray bottle. Use it as a deodorant for underarms. It is helpful in controlling body odour.
• Put 10 drops of essential oil in 30 ml of water. Apply this on the underarms so as to reduce body odour.
• Grate a turnip and compress the grated pieces. Rub this turnip juice on the underarms to reduce the foul smell of body odour. It will help in making you smell-free.
• Drink a cup of sage tea every day. It will decrease the sweat glands’ activity, eventually reducing the body odour.
It is important to note that repeating unwashed clothes (particularly undergarments) will increase your body odour. So, do not repeat unwashed clothes. Wax your armpits frequently. Do not wear shoes for a long time in order to avoid foot odour. Also, wear cotton socks.
Along with following the above remedies, a few changes in your daily diet will also be helpful in controlling your body odour. The changes include avoiding refined sugar, white flour, hydrogenated oils, other processed foods, red meat, fiber-less food, alcohol, caffeine, cumin and garlic. Consume a healthy diet, including whole grains, leafy vegetables, sprouts, fresh fruits, soy products, raw nuts and many more.
