The term corn refers to toughened patches on the skin that have a conical shape, with the tip pointed into the foot. Basically, there are two kinds of corns. One is hard corn and the other is soft corn. Hard corns appear on the top of the toes or on the outer side of the little toes while soft corns appear between the toes. Severe pain occurs when some pressure is put on the corn and the tip touches the foot tissue.
Causes
Some of the common causes of corns include:
1. Wearing tight shoes, ill-fitting socks, inflexible or nonporous shoes, or high-heeled shoes can cause corns
2. Diabetic patients have more chances to get corns.
3. People with flat feet and skin erosion on the foot sole become an easy victim of corns.
4. Defective walking style is a major reason that can cause corn.
5. Stress in particular locations can cause corn.
Symptoms
A major symptom of corn is a thickening in the lower side of the feet along with pain. In severe cases of corns, the patients may notice difficulty in walking.
Home remedies for corn
There are a lot of home remedies that can cure corns completely and safely. Some of the major home remedies are as follows:
• Make a paste of licorice sticks and sesame oil or mustard oil. Rub the paste on the corns. This will make them soft and relieve you from the pain to a great extent.
• Tie a lemon slice to the corn for some time. This will help in healing the corn. Wash your foot thoroughly after taking off the slice from the corn.
• Apply raw papaya juice on the affected area of the skin. This is a proven and extremely effective remedy for corns.
• Bandage a part of Indian Squill on the corns overnight. This will show quick results in treating the corns.
• Apply the green figs juice on the skin of the foot. This will soften the skin and minimize the chances of occurrence of corns.
• Mix chalk powder in water and apply it on the affected area. This is also effective in curing corns.
• A mixture of aspirin tablets and lemon juice will help in relieving you from pain and softening the corn.
• You can reduce your swelling by applying an ice pack on the hard corn. Also, it will ease you from pain.
• Soak a cotton ball in vinegar and tie it to the corn for some time. This will make the corn soft. Then you can easily rub it with a pumice stone for effective and good results.
• Sprinkle cornstarch powder on the affected area as it helps in absorbing the moisture and will keep the area dry and safe against fungal infections.
• Take diluted chamomile tea. This is beneficial in drying out sweaty feet, thus soothing the affected area to a great extent.
• Take a basin of warm water and baking soda. Soak your corn in it. This will help you to get rid of the pain completely.
• Apply some petroleum jelly on the toes for effective results.
• Wrap a small piece of fresh pineapple peel around the affected area overnight. This will treat the corn completely. Use this method fro at least a week for effective results.
• Tie a used tea bag to the corn and leave it for an hour for excellent results.
• Boil oatmeal for five minutes in water. Then soak your foot into that water. Make sure it is not too hot while you soak your foot into it. This will help you to get rid of the pain completely.
If the following tips are also followed along with adopting the above remedies, you will notice quick and effective results. Trim your toe nails on a regular basis. Choose the right and most comfortable shoes for yourself.
Keep in mind that they should be flexible and convenient to the foot. Do not share your shoes with anyone. Take a well-balanced diet. Exercise and walk regularly. Never cut corns as this can result in heavy bleeding and infection.
