Gout is a term used for a particular type of arthritis caused by excess deposition of uric acid in the body. Uric acid is a natural waste product of the body. A person suffers from the problem of gout in case the level of this acid rises above the minimum normal level in the body. 
 
 
When a person is suffering from gout, the uric acid crystals deposit in his joints rather than flushed into the kidneys. This leads to swelling in the joints. The problem of swelling is usually felt and observed in the joints of the knees, feet, hands, wrists and elbows. Toe is the most commonly affected part of the body. However, the uric acid crystals depositions may also take place in the areas below the skin, kidneys and the urinary tract. 
 
Symptoms
 
The symptoms can be very acute or may last for just a few days. The common symptoms of gout include pain and inflammation in joints; swelling in the joints accompanied by redness and tenderness of the affected area; and a feeling of pressure in the affected area. 
It has been observed that the problem of gout is more common among men as compared to women. Nowadays, gout has become a common old age problem. Research and analysis have proved that men have four times higher chances of gout than women. 
 
Causes
 
Though there are no specific reasons for uric acid deposition in the body, some prompt causes could be noticed. Some of the common causes of gout include the following:
(a) Heavy eating causes obesity which is a very important factor for gout. 
(b) Over consumption of lean meat and organ meat products. 
(c) Alcoholic drinkers have more chances of suffering from gout.
(d) Another important factor is sedentary lifestyle, generally due to lack of exercise and physical activities.
(e) People with urinary and Kidney problems are more susceptible. 
(f) High blood pressure patients become easy victim of gout. 
(g) Sudden changes in environmental conditions may lead to gout.
 
Home remedies for gout
 
You can be treated for gout by applying simple household remedies. Following remedies are very effective in treating gout:
Cherries are very good remedy for gout. This is because cherries are rich in Vitamin C that helps in eliminating the excess deposits of uric acid in the body. Eat around ten to fifteen cherries a day to get relief from gout attacks. Alternatively, you can drink cherry juice at least once a day. 
Apples are beneficial for gout patients. You must eat at least one apple per day to get relief.
Safflower treats gout in an effective way. You can take the capsule form of safflower for quick recovery. 
For patients who have gout in their toes, here is an effective remedy. Take one-third cup of ground ginger. Put it in a bath tub and soak your affected foot into it. Keep it in the tub for 30 minutes. You would feel sweat that helps in eliminating uric acid. Take a thorough bath after this process else ginger may cause skin irritation in the body. 
Squeeze half a lemon in a glass of water and drink this juice. Have it 2-3 times a day at regular intervals. Lemon, which is a rich source of Vitamin C helps in dissolving the gouty deposits in the body. 
Extract juice from French beans. Drink half a cup juice twice in a day for a month. This will give you relief from the gout pains and the inflammation will also be reduced to a great extent. 
Grind mustard and form powder out of it. Take the mustard powder and mix it with whole wheat powder. Add some water to this mixture and form a paste. Apply this paste on the affected parts of your body and leave overnight to have effective results.
Mix two teaspoons each of organic apple cider vinegar and honey. Have this mixture twice a day to get relief from the gout pain. 
 
Along with adopting the above remedies, some alteration in your lifestyle will benefit you a lot to get rid of gout. Exercise regularly. Eat 3-4 bananas a day that help in eliminating uric acid crystals from your body system. Add citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, green pepper and leafy green vegetables in your daily diet. Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day.
