Home remedies for hypertension
A majority of people all around the world suffer from hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. Blood pressure refers to the force of blood against the walls of arteries. High blood pressure is a dangerous state of heart as it makes the heart work harder to pump blood to the body, eventually contributing to hardening the arteries or atherosclerosis. It is a disease common in this modern world. In the current scenario, people have no time for themselves. They are usually overstressed with work and, thus, are more prone to hypertension.
There are basically three states of blood pressure:
• Low blood pressure or pre-hypertension: Less than 120/80
• High blood pressure: 140/90 or higher
• Normal blood pressure: Between 120/80 and 140/90
A person suffering from high blood pressure has more chances or risk of being a victim of a heart disease or kidney disease, and even of having a stroke. That is why hypertension is also called the silent killer. The main risk involved in a high blood pressure is that it often comes without any warning symptoms.
Causes of High Blood Pressure
The causes of high blood pressure include narrowing of the arteries, an abnormally greater volume of blood, or palpitation. Any of the above symptoms may cause increased blood pressure against the artery walls. Hypertension is often caused by some other medical problem whose cause is difficult to understand. Other causes include smoking, obesity, intake of alcohol, stress, sodium intake and inactive lifestyle.

It is suggested to have a regular diagnosis of your blood pressure as its symptoms are often unpredictable. Symptoms in serious cases of hypertension may include headaches, fatigue, confusion, nausea, tinnitus (a ringing or buzzing in the ears) and visual disturbance.
