Home remedies for jaundice By Megha Batra

Jaundice refers to a condition in which yellow discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes occur due to an increase in the bile pigments, noticeably, bilirubin in the blood. Jaundice is most common among the newborn babies because their livers require time to start working properly.

Symptoms

The common symptoms of jaundice include extreme weakness, headache, fever, loss of appetite, severe constipation, nausea, and yellow discoloration of the eyes, tongue, skin and urine. The patient also suffers from a dull pain in the liver area. Jaundice may also cause intense itching in the body.

Causes

The chief cause of jaundice is the obstruction of the bile ducts. In this disease, the bile gets mixed with blood and results in a yellow pigmentation in the skin. Other reasons include haemolytic anaemia and diseases that affect the liver, such as typhoid, malaria, yellow fever and tuberculosis.

Then place the juice on the palm and draw it up through the nostrils. It will result in the outflow of a large amount of a yellow-coloured fluid through your nostrils, thus giving relief to the patient. You can also use bitter luffa seeds as an alternative in case the bitter luffa juice is not available. Mind it to wash the seeds with water before use.
•    Curing Jaundice with Radish Leaves: This is another valuable remedy for jaundice. Pound the leaves and extract their juice through cloth. Take half a liter of radish juice every day. It improves the appetite and results in proper evacuation of bowels, eventually decreasing the trouble. You can notice complete cure within eight to ten days.
•    Curing Jaundice with Tomato: Take a glass of fresh tomato juice. Add a pinch of salt and pepper in the juice. Take it regularly for a week in the early morning. It is a proven useful cure for jaundice.
•    Curing Jaundice with Snake Gourd Leaves: The snake gourd leaves are also found useful to cure jaundice. Take 15 gm of dry leaves. Mix 250 ml of boiled water in it. To prepare the mixture, take eight kernels of almonds, two dried dates, and five cardamoms of small size. Soak them in water in night. Peel off the outer covering of the almonds and dried dates. Then prepare the paste of the whole material by rubbing it. Add 50 gm of sugar and an equal amount of butter to the paste and lick it.

It is advisable to be fasting on fruit juice for a week. You should have complete rest until recovery is seen. After fasting on fruit juice, you may adopt an all-fruit diet for next three to five days. Your daily diet should include three meals of fresh juicy fruits at an interval of five hours. A regular moderate exercise and fresh air walks will also relieve you to a great extent from the severity of jaundice.

Note: Avoid resorting to any of the above remedies in case you are allergic to them. Consult your doctor in such a case.
