Home remedies for nosebleeds
There are a number of home remedies to stop nose bleeding if it occurs occasionally. Some of the easy and proven home remedies are mentioned below:
• Before trying to stop nose bleeding, blow your nose once with full force. It will blow out any clot that is keeping the blood vessels of the nose lining open. This will assist in stopping the nosebleed.
• Many a time, just blowing the nose with a little bit of pressure is sufficient for controlling the nosebleed.
• Cover the bleeding side of the nose with wet cotton. You can take out the cotton after 10-15 minutes.
• Do not tilt your head back whenever you have a nosebleed. It will create more trouble for you as the blood may run into your throat instead of tickling down the nose. Instead, keep your body straight to stop the nosebleed.
• Keep holding an ice cube alongside the bleeding area of nose. It will constrict the blood vessels in the nose lining and thus, lessen bleeding.
• Never pick your nose when it is bleeding. Doing such a thing will delay the rupture in the nose’s blood vessels by 7 to 10 days to heal completely.
• Apply an antibiotic/steroid ointment in and around the affected area.
• Consult a doctor and get your blood pressure checked up as the people with high blood pressure or hypertension are prone to having nosebleeds.
• Humidify the air with an effective air humidifier. There is a reason behind this. Each time you breathe in the air, your nose has to ensure that the air that reaches the lungs is well-humidified. If your surroundings are dry, your nose has to work extra hard.
• Avoid smoking.
Here are some homemade recipes that will help in stopping the nosebleed:
• Dip and soak a cotton ball in the apple cider vinegar and press it lightly into the nostril.
• Soak a cotton ball in some squeezed nettle leaves and pack it lightly into the nostril for 3 to 5 minutes.
• Soak a cotton ball in lemon juice and pack it lightly into the nostril for 5 minutes.
• Mix grinded cumin and an equal amount of apple cider vinegar. Then soak a cotton ball in the mixture and pack it into the nostril for a minute.
• Boil 8-10 acorns for 10 minutes. Cool and save them in the refrigerator. Soak a cotton ball in the liquid and pack it into the nostril for 4 to 5 minutes, whenever required.
• Put a pinch of cayenne pepper in one glass of lukewarm water and drink it.
• Take some water and mix some salt in it. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the mixture and then put some drops in your nose.
• Soak a cotton ball in onion juice and pack it lightly into the nostril for 3-4 minutes.
If the nose bleeding occurs occasionally, it is not a cause for much worry as it is quite common in children as well as adults. But in case the bleeding occurs frequently, say, more than once in a week and is heavy and uncontrollable, it could be a danger sign and it is advisable to consult the doctor immediately.
Note: Avoid resorting to any of the above remedies in case you are allergic to them. Consult your doctor in such a case.
