Assocham: India's medical tourism earnings will be up to Rs.8,000cr by 2012
Medical tourism is estimated to get India around Rs.8, 000 crore in foreign exchange till 2012, almost double than existing figures, said an industry lobby.
Sajjan Jindal, president of (Assocham) Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India said in a statement that at present, the earnings obtained via medical tourism per annum are likely to be up to Rs.4,500 crore. This will increase up to Rs.8,000 crore over the upcoming 3-years.
Adding more to the points, he said that the main reason for medical tourism to thrive in India is the low-cost for treatments like bypass surgery, bone marrow transplant, liver transplant and knee surgery as opposed to western countries.
Assocham said that one more reason for India drawing other countries patients is its confidence of highly qualified medical professionals.
