While the vaccine for swine flu is still awaited officially, our very own homeopathy and other alternative therapies have come up with remedies from the kitchen to keep the flu at bay.

The faith of people seems to be reinstated in the alternative therapies of Ayurveda, Unani and homeopathy as IR Perumal, principal secretary of Health and Family Welfare Services, assured them that flu prevention is possible by building immunity with the consistent use of alternative remedies.

The state Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) too has come up with some effective home-grown remedies. They all promise to keep off the swine flu and other similar air borne diseases, if taken for three consecutive days in a specified manner. AYUSH is distributing these medicines to the public free of cost.

AYUSH is also working out plan to prepare some effective homeopathic remedies as well. These shall mainly be immuno-builders and will strengthen the immune system against any and every air borne disease. This drug preparation is a Rs 25 lakh project with the department and it has already distributed the drug to over 1.24 lakh people.

According to G N Sreekantaiah, director, Department of AYUSH, homeopathic medicines are quite effective in fighting the flu and overcoming its symptoms completely.

Also, experts from the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), too have recommended use of homeopathic medicine `Arsenicum album' to combat flu-like symptoms. A single dose of `Arsenicum album 30' taken for three consecutive days is said to effectively fight flu and similar infections by building the body’s immune system. The dose, however, has to be repeated in the similar fashion after a month, if infectious conditions persist.
