ESIC Hospital in Ludhiana has introduced AYUSH facility within its premises. This facility is meant for those patients who would prefer to get treatment under the alternative medical therapies like homeopathy and Ayurveda.

A ten-bed ward has been created for the purpose of treating patients who want to get admitted. Apart from this, there is an out-patient department where they can seek medical advice and go back home.

A Yoga instructor has also been employed to teach yogic exercises to patients as part of treatment of various ailments. This is all done under the stewardship of Dr. Deepak Saxena, who has taken over as medical superintendent of the hospital in May this year.

Dr. Saxena is instrumental in the planning and implementation of the novel initiative. A product of Maulana Azad Medical College, Saxena brushed aside all the scepticism among his colleagues over the move and went ahead with his plan.

People had questioned the credibility of the move. They were apprehensive that such a step, eventually, would result in lowering the medical standards of the hospital. They were all proved wrong as the people in the area responded positively to the initiative.

From the Bureau of Indian Standards in 2008, the hospital has got an ISO certificate, which is a proof that the hospital is complying with standards set by the medical authorities.
