Commonwealth Games athletes to get Kerala Arurveda massage treatment

With the intention of treating all international as well as national players to the world famous therapeutic Ayurvedic Kerala massage, the government has hired a team of 150 masseurs to cater to around 8000 sportspersons during the Commonwealth Games. 

The masseurs, who have been selected by the director of Medical Education Ayurveda and principal of Ayurveda Medical College of Trivandrum, are mostly either Ayurvedic doctors or ayurvedic massage therapists from Kerala. 
 
The decision to hire masseurs for the common wealth games was taken, when Delhi's health department approached Kerala government two months back. The health department wanted the state government’s assistance in selecting professionals who could give healing massages to tired or injured players.

The 150 masseurs finally selected were shortlisted from the many who responded via application to the newspaper advertisement released by the Kerala government. They were then trained at Ayurvedic Medical College in Trivandrum and will further be undergoing training from a Pune based specialist in sports injuries, for the required purpose at the games.

While the requirement is just for 120 masseurs the rest are have been hired as a contingency plan. All of them will be divided into teams and will be located at the different venues within the Commonwealth Games Village. They will be provided with a hostel facility for the duration of their stay in Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital complex.

The Indian Ayurvedic therapeutic massages and masseurs are renowned world over as the best in the field. They are therefore, a very important part of the international sports event hosted by the country.
