Cow-urine riding high on swine flu hysteria

In the wake of rising death toll from swine flu in India, many people are inclined to buy medicines made out of extracts of cow-urine mixed up with clarified butter and herbal potions. This alternative is being chosen by people to keep the germs of swine flue at bay, especially when government has restricted the sale of Tami flu and other similar drugs.
Since the time when first swine flu death was reported in Pune city, the swine toll has risen to 100. In an effort to maintain hospital supplies, the government is devising ways to control the distribution of Roche AG’s Tami flu antiviral drug.

Doctors have warned general public against approaching quacks who have found a golden opportunity in the outbreak to make money by taking advantage of the situation. Dr. Kalyan Banerjee, president of the Maharashtra Association for the Cultivation of Science and former director of the National Institute of Virology has cautioned people against any such superfluous prescription.
The health department has advised the masses to keep a close watch on the flu-like symptoms and to visit designated hospitals only for diagnosis and treatment. The department has also advised people not to create panic and build up their immunity, through natural ingredients in order to combat germs and prevent infection.
