Delhi CM launches homeopathy campaign

No longer do people drift away from homeopathic treatment, equating it to snail-paced cure or placebo. The system of medicine seems to have got an ardent supporter in Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who on Thurdsday proclaimed that her government was dedicated to the development of homeopathic mode of treatment.  Inaugurating a campaign on 'Homoeopathy for Healthy Mother and Happy Child', Mrs. Dikshit described the homeopathic medication as the right blend of economy, simplicity and effectiveness of treatment. She also said that homeopathic medicine has also been able to garner cultural acceptability among the diverse Indian population. As part of the campaign, homeo.delhigovt.nic.in, a specialised website on online homeopathic treatment was also dedicated to the public.

The Chief Minister said that the safe, harmless and gentle remedial potential of homeopathic treatment has been known to the Indain masses for more than 150 years. Considering the popularity enjoyed by this mode of medication, the Delhi Government has set up 32 new dispensaries within the past ten years.

Pamphlets and posters meant for enlightening the public on various aspects of homoeopathic treatment was also released as part of the campaign. Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, who was also present at the function, promised to support the homoeopathic dispensaries that are run by charitable trusts and other non-government organisations.

Different steps to provide quality health care through the effective coordination of homeopathic and allopathic medications will also be initiated as part of the campaign. A two-day workshop for doctors from different streams of medicine such as allopathy, ayurveda, homoeopathy and unani is also organised for this purpose.

The national campaign on 'Homoeopathy for Mother and Child Care' which was initially launched by the Department of Ayush, in 2007 aimed at providing right treatment to pregnant women. Effective prevention of various diseases that are commonly found among children was its another objective.
