In a pioneering initiative under the Golden Triangle project of the Central Government, 8 bhasmas have been given validation certificate by the department of Ayush. Furthermore, the department of Ayush Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), will be scientifically validating more such Ayurveda products in future.
This certification was necessitated in the wake of complaints against a few Ayurveda formulations which were found to contain certain minerals and metals. This effort, by the Ayush department, is a step towards the standardisation of all such metallic bhasmas and mineral-based formulations.
The department also plans to establish a Pharmacopoeial Commission for Indian Medicine in an effort to create an independent scientific body that will lay down pharmacopoeial standards. This department will operate from the building of the Pharmacopoeial Laboratory of Indian Medicine, Ghaziabad. Similar certification will also be implemented over other streams of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani medicines.
As stated Dr GG Gangadharan, joint director (Traditional System of Medicine), Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), standardisation and quality control of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani drugs are being taken seriously to combat adverse drug reaction. This initiative will definitely will go a long wab in the promotion of the traditional system of medicine.
