Kolkata-based Emami group, which manufactures many Ayurvedic based cosmetics, has entered into MoU with the Uttarakhand government, which will materialize the pioneering facility named ‘ayush gram’ at Bhawali sanatorium located in the scenic locales of Kumaon. The facility is one of its own kind herbal centre that will operate under the PPP mode, and which will give a unique blend of everything including a hospital, a wellness centre, a hotel, a herbal garden, a yoga centre, a drug manufacturing unit and pharmacy and much more. The uniquely constructed hospital under the facility of ‘ayush gram’ will offer five features of AYUSH - Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy.

MoU was signed between Uttarakhand government and Emami group after the latter gained the contract through an open bidding route. Emami group has entered into consortium with Rishikesh-based ashram and a hotel company. The Hrishikesh-based company turned out to be the lone successful bidder as both technical as well as financial bids turned out valid from the perspective of Emami group.

The present status of 358-bed sanatorium constructed in 1912, and located in Kumaon Hills in Nainital district is that only one doctor manages it. However, after signing the MoU between Emami group and Uttarakhand government, additional 10-hectares of land will be made available for construction of ‘ayush gram’. It is also important to highlight here that ‘ayush gram’ is a dream project of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. The estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs 50-crore, and all the 13 districts of state of Uttarakhand will have one ayush gram.
