FDA warns of dangerous steroid-laced supplements

What seems to be harmless and legitimate in sealed bottles might turn out to be fatal for someone’s health. We are talking about dietry supplement pills, sold in certified chemist stores, which are found to be containing alleged performance-enhancing drugs and undeclared pharmaceuticals.
Many consumers have complained that they have experienced unhealthy symptoms after taking such pills that, on close scrutiny, were packed with potentially dangerous ingredients that can lead to paralyses, heart attack and stroke. Considering mounting complaints, FDA has warned consumers to avoid such supplements that claim to contain ingredients similar to steroids. It is alleged that they contain steroids only.
In order to pacify alarming consumer, FDA authorities have counseled consumers to act judiciously, read and understand the constituents before purchasing. Although supplements, which are made from products approved in the U.S. market before 1994, can be sold without being reviewed by the FDA; the instructions are clear for companies that include newer substances. It’s mandatory for them to seek the approval from FDA.
Travis Tygart, chief executive of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, is of opinion that top athletes must take all supplements at their own risk. FDA has in fact issued warnings against 70 weight-loss supplements that are feared to include potentially dangerous components.
Consumers must stay aware towards any symptoms that might erupt after intake of new supplement. Any symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, chest pain, shortness of breath, yellow corneas and skin, and discolored urine must not be taken lightly. Stop consuming that supplement and consult your doctor immediately.
