Many herbalists in Scotland went on a peaceful display outside the Scottish parliament while campaigning for legal recognition of their herbal treatments.  Anticipating a not so positive effect of the upcoming European rules on their medicines and profession in general, the herbalists took the campaign to holyrood.

Many of the herbalists were dressed as Tudors to signify how little things have changed for them since the times of Henry VIII's Quacks' Charter. The herbalists want their medicines to be legally recognised as many are still seen as treatments by quacks.

According to sources, a new EU law is in the pipeline. It will be implemented in 2011 and will ban all herbal medicines except the ones which have been licensed as traditional remedies.

A nation wide consultation is going to be organised by the Department of Health, in order to gather public opinion on whether the herbal regulations should be there or not.
