India and Malaysia are in the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the field of traditional medicines. Currently an 18-member Indian team comprising of officials and entrepreneurs who are into manufacturing of Indian traditional medicine are in Malaysia to attend Conference on Indian Traditional Medicine and to explore possibilities of creating more opportunities in the traditional medicine market and possible joint ventures in traditional systems of medicine to enter the global market.

Speaking at the conference, Ashok K. Kantha, the Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia said; “India and Malaysia can derive maximum benefit from each other's experience and knowledge by moving from traditional systems of medicine to integrated medicine since both countries are among 12 countries in the world recognised for their rich and diverse bio-resources.”

The Indian traditional medicine industry that includes many systems of medicines like Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Naturopathy etc has an annual turnover of a whopping 2 billion US dollars. A lot more can be achieved globally if joint ventures with developing countries such as Malaysia becomes a reality. This would be a win-win situation for all.
