Madras HC bars quack, family from practising alternative medicines
By Ishpreet Bindra
In yet another case of a false alternative 'medicine practitioner' being barred from practicing either Ayurveda or sidha, the sad, but quite prevalent scenario of quacks practising alternative therapies in our country has come to light.
Although, the Madras High Court has granted bail to Vijayakumar and barred his practice, the fact that he has already been implicated in 20 such cases and has got bail in three of them can not be overlooked.
The court has banned him and even his family members from running the Thiruvangur Raja Vaidya Salai, till the time he is able to produce authentic documents pertaining to his educational qualifications. The court has demanded that Vijayakumar should produce documents relating to him being a registered practitioner and only then shall he be able to practice further.
The case of cheated was filed against him by two of his patients. Vijayakumar has been falsely practicing Siddha and Ayurveda for the last 15 years, claiming to be a registered medical practitioner.
According to Justice KN Basha, the petitioner had made many of his patients pay huge sums as fees, but none of them had actually been cured of their ailments, some of which were even complicated ones.
In his ruling, Justice Basha has demanded Vijayakumar to pay a sum of two lakh to each of the complainants M J Ramesh and S Babu.
It is hoped that the judgement shall act as a deterrent for those indulging in similar kinds of fraudulent practice, giving alternative therapies a bad name, as many tend to loose faith in them.
