Opportunist entrepreneurs cash in on swine flu panic

While the world is held in awe and panic is building up by the day, people are ready to try out just about anything and everything to either keep the flu at bay. Some innovative entrepreneurial minds have grabbed this God sent opportunity to propagate the healing effects of alternative therapies like yoga, homeopathy, ayurveda etc.
These people are boasting the capabilities of these alternative therapies to fight the deadly swine flu virus irrespective of whether they fit the bill or not. Numerous newspaper advertisements in Vadodara sing praises of homeopathic doctors and their wonder sweet pills offered as preventive medicines for Swine Flu.
Not to be left behind, the Homeopathic Medical Association of India (HMAI) is out to conduct a seminar enlightening people on the means of prevention and treatment of the disease. In addition, over 20 homeopathic doctors are expected to attend a meeting in Ahmedabad to discuss the role of homeopathy in treating swine flu and the ways to manage the panic generated from the problem.
The Vadodara Homeopathy Health Center is also running a 15-day course on building the immune system against the disease. The course which costs Rs. 100 also claims to cure cough cold and fever.
Organic India, a Lucknow based company manufacturing herbal products has gone a step further by introducing a Rs.350 worth swine flu care kit claiming a herbal antibiotic. It is not only being boasted as an anti-viral but is also said to be an immuno-modular and hence capable of killing bacteria and fungus.
While the government is concentrating all its efforts on equipping the clinics and procuring ‘Tami flu’, the most effective antidote of the flu till date, these small time practitioners are busy devising ways and means to cash in on the situation for their personal gains.
You find yoga practitioners now preaching their art from the Swine flu angle and Ayurvedic medicines being sold in stalls too with a promise of keeping the deadly virus at bay. However, the fact is that while thousands and many more suffer in the nation, thousand more minds are also at work, figuring out ways to make hay while the swine flu sun shines.
