Emami, Uttarakhand govt sign MoU for 'ayush gram'

Kolkata-based Emami group, which manufactures many Ayurvedic based cosmetics, has entered into MoU with the Uttarakhand government, which will materialize the pioneering facility named ‘ayush gram’ at Bhawali sanatorium located in the scenic locales of Kumaon.

Today, the wellness and healthcare sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in India. But so far it is unregulated and prone to swindlers under the garb of this industry. Hence, Quality Council of India (QCI)’s National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers, (NABH) has initiated a programme of accreditation of wellness centres in India. Gyms, spas, cosmetic and skin treatment centres will now get legal authorisation from QCI.

Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, the Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture also said that the government has set apart Rs. 16 crore with the aim of nurturing medicinal plants essential for the conventional mode of treatment.

CCEA approves AYUSH scheme with modifications

The implementation of alternative systems of medicine in AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries has earned the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), but with certain modifications. This announcement, which came on Thursday, ascribed the purpose of this approval to sustenance and mainstreaming of alternate medicine under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).  

Five Ayurveda research institutes for Karnataka

Karnataka will soon have five Ayurveda research institutes. This was announced by Director of AYUSH GN Srikantaiah at a felicitation ceremony organised by Karnataka Rajya Ayurveda Padhavidharara Parishat, Ayurveda Prachara Parishat Trust and Vaidyavartha Prakashana in Mysore, on Sunday.

The faith of people seems to be reinstated in the alternative therapies of Ayurveda, Unani and homeopathy as IR Perumal, principal secretary of Health and Family Welfare Services, assured them that flu prevention is possible by building immunity with the consistent use of alternative remedies.

This has raised an alarm in the Health Ministry and they are in the process of releasing new regulations. More essential than these regulations is the need to spread awareness about these therapies.
